After last year’s resounding success the Cowal Fiddle Workshop is delighted to be hosting once more the Dunoon Scottish Music Workshop on the 19th-21st July 2019.
Dunoon’s Burgh Hall was voted last year as the ideal place to host a serious international music workshop, and has been selected again for 2019 after a year of art exhibitions, music and theatre. The Town itself has been greatly praised for its friendliness, and many improvements to the facilities and infrastructure are taking place.
Long established as a centre for Scottish music, it is the ideal place to host a mixed instrument workshop with three of the world’s top Tutors in their field:
Alistair McCulloch, teaching Fiddle, Marc Duff teaching Whistles and Aaron Jones teaching Guitar.
Alistair, Marc and Aaron not only tour together as the “Alistair McCulloch Trio” (their recent release of their CD “Off the Hook” has been an acclaimed success), but individually have extensive music careers and appear all over the world. In addition to the teaching workshop on Friday 19th through Sunday 21st July they will also be giving a concert open to the public in the evening on Saturday 20th July in the Burgh Hall.
The Summer Workshop is unusual in that the organisers send out sheet music and recordings of all the music they will be using during the weekend so that participants can arrive knowing the music rather than spending the first day learning new tunes. This enables them to concentrate on what they want to learn rather than remembering notes.
Also unusual is that there will be an informal “breakout” evening in MacClures Bar, when the musicians can get together and enjoy a relaxed ceilidh evening away from the formality of the Workshop. On the Saturday after the concert, there will also be a musical evening for the survivors. Local musicians are of course also very welcome to join these occasions.
Now in its 31st year, the Cowal Fiddle Workshop is always open to new membership and looking for more ways to promote Scottish music, our heritage.
